Trommel

We use a trommel to separate dirt, rubbish and metal. This ensures that we are recycling as much as possible and keeping landfill to a minimum.

Trommel screens are designed to classify sizes of solid waste and separate materials. Thanks to their careful design, trommels use little energy whilst offering robustness and durability. The perforated cylindrical drum on a trommel is usually elevated at an angle at the feed end, separating physical materials as they spiral down the rotating drum.

Smaller materials will pass through the trommel screen whilst larger materials will be present at the other end of the drum after the trommel process is complete.

Shearing

They are a great choice for processing all kinds of HMS such as beams, rails, pipe, re-rod, skeleton plate, tanks and other types of heavy/oversize material.

Metal shears are robust scrap processing machines that reduce the material to a compact size which enable us to fill containers to maximum capacity.

It is often the case that pieces of scrap metal are too big to be reprocessed, so instead, they are sheared to reduce the size. Shearing cuts the metal into manageable sizes to be recycled.

Why Recycle?

The recycling industry was borne of the need to recover and conserve valuable natural resources. The use of recycled materials reduces the strain on finite resources whilst consuming considerably less energy when compared to production processes with virgin materials.

The rise in demand globally for scrap metal shows that manufacturers and producers throughout a variety of sectors are embracing recyclable metals in many products. This chain starts with the collaboration of recyclers providing a reliable source of materials to steel mills, metal refiners, foundries etc. Manufacturers in other sectors directly benefit from their use as it provides significant cost savings in the supply of the production materials that they require.

Currently, almost 40% of the world’s steel production is sourced from scrap materials. Recycling one tonne of steel saves over a tonne of iron ore, 630kg of coal and 642kWh of energy. This results in fewer pollutants and prevents this useful resource from ending up in landfill sites. Choosing to avoid ore material makes a large reduction in CO2 emissions possible, of nearly 60% and uses 75% less energy in the process*.

The recycling industry is an integral part of business today, having a huge positive social and economic impact. Recyclable metals are a valuable commodity in today’s business environment and their use should be maximised as part of a wider considered plan of corporate responsibility.

The industry will continue to expand as the world adapts to meet the challenges of the future ahead. It is vital for sustainable consumption and necessary, to support a brighter future for our planet.

Recycling means we:

  • Reach environmental goals
  • Increase profitability
  • Manufacture sustainably
  • Greatly reduce our carbon footprint
